Securing data in today’s information technology driven world is a must. Whether it is a network manager of a small or large corporation or a simple home user, it proves beneficial to all computer users to have a backup of their data so that it can be used to restore original data in the event of a data loss.
While running a business, if data has not been backed up, then the issues are potentially very serious. A system crash could stop the business trading for hours, days or even weeks, and that could even mean breaking data protection laws by not keeping data safe and secure.

Did you know?
• 34% of companies fail to test their backups, and of those that do, 77% have found back-up failures (Source: Home Office Computing Magazine)
• 93% of companies that lost their data centre for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster. (Source: National Archives & Records Administration)
Finding the right backup solution could be confusing. It depends on what to backup, how to backup & what type of computer or network is being used. It might sometimes seem difficult to choose the right backup solution. Not because they are difficult to find, but because there are too many of them. Data Backup consultants these days start by asking what you want to take a backup of. Is it a hard disk, a server on a LAN or a partition of a hard disk? It could also be a database, specific files or directories/ folders.
The ways in which data has been stored has changed over time, from punch strips, removable disk to data tapes. Data in the old days was stored on large tapes. When the program needed to process data, the information was loaded from the tapes in real time. Things have changed with the adoption of the Internet, LAN, WAN and ever more powerful storage medium. Today it is becoming more and more popular to make a snapshot of disk drives and write that information on to a DVD with the computer's DVD player.
It’s worth noting that ALL disk drives fail, regardless of brand or type. A professional company offering data backup and recovery services can show how to create a back up. If the client does not have any backup devices, the data backup company can supply and fit cost effective and tailor made backing up solutions for the home or business to suit the client’s needs, ranging from basic CD-rewriters to high capacity external hard drives with fully automated scheduled backing up software.
